Responsibilities
- Provide perioperative nursing care across a range of surgical cases, including ortho total joints/trauma, neuro, GYN/urology, vascular, thoracic, general, and bariatric procedures; assist with robotic-assisted cases using Da Vinci Xi
- Maintain sterile technique, assist with positioning, instrument handling, counts, and time-out processes; support the surgeon and anesthesia team throughout procedures
- Monitor intraoperative patient status, respond to changes, manage equipment, and participate in rapid response and post-anesthesia handoffs
- Prepare, label, and transport specimens; perform phlebotomy and IV placement as required; ensure accurate documentation in the electronic charting system (EPIC)
- Collaborate with IV/rapid response teams, PT, RT, Radiology, Pharmacy, Social Services, and unit staff; coordinate with Transport and Unit Secretary for smooth case flow
- Adhere to safety, infection control, and universal protocol; participate in block scheduling and call coverage; float as needed within the unit
Requirements
- Active New York RN license in hand to submit
- BLS certification required
- OR/surgical nursing experience; typically 3 years of RN OR/surgical practice; travel RN experience required; unit does not accept first-time travelers
- EPIC charting experience required
- Da Vinci Xi robotics experience preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly specialized OR setting with 1:1 patient care; must meet facility competency requirements including phlebotomy and IV placement
