Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care for laboring patients in the LDRP unit, including support during labor and triage needs
- Deliver couplet care for mothers and newborns; monitor fetal status and maternal vitals; assist with vaginal deliveries and support during Cesarean sections and recovery
- Conduct newborn assessments, thermoregulation management, phototherapy as indicated, and breastfeeding/lactation support
- Document in Epic and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (Respiratory, Interpretation Services, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response, Pharmacy) to optimize patient safety and flow
- Educate families on care plans, newborn care, and discharge readiness; respond to obstetric emergencies with appropriate escalation
- Maintain clinical proficiency in obstetric care, triage, and post-delivery recovery within the LDRP model
Requirements
- Active RN license in New Mexico or NM/Compact license accepted; must be obtained prior to start
- Certifications: BLS, NRP, STABLE
- Experience: Minimum 1 year in Labor & Delivery; first-time travelers accepted; charge experience preferred
- Environment: Ability to function effectively in an LDRP unit with couplet care; may float to related units within scope with brief orientation
- Charting: Epic charting experience or ability to learn quickly
