Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to ICU patients across adult and geriatric populations, including those requiring advanced monitoring and support.
- Monitor hemodynamic status, administer medications, and manage ventilator and other supportive therapies as prescribed.
- Perform frequent assessments, document in the electronic medical record, and communicate changes to the multidisciplinary team.
- Respond to emergencies, participate in code events, and contribute to rapid evaluation and escalation of patient needs.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other colleagues to develop and adjust patient care plans.
- Ensure safety, quality of care, infection control, and patient/family education in a high-acuity setting.
Requirements
- Licenses: Current New York State RN license
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS required through the RQI system during clinical orientation; NIHSS certification
- Additional certifications: Basic Coronary Care within 6 months of hire; CPI certification within 90 days of hire; TNCC and emergency nursing certification recommended within specified timeframes
- Skills/experience: Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion; strong communication and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines and balance multiple priorities; patient care knowledge across age groups (adult, geriatric) with appropriate assessment and intervention capabilities
- Education: Graduation from an approved nursing program and NYS RN licensure; eligible for practice in the ICU setting
