Charge Nurse, Acute Care (RN) – Travel assignment in San Luis Obispo, CA. Start date: 08/24/2026. 13-week contract with 36 guaranteed hours per week. Night shift: 3x12-hour periods (6:00 PM–6:30 AM). Short Term Acute Care Hospital setting. This unit-based leadership role collaborates with the Nurse Manager, Director, physicians, and staff to oversee patient care and ensure high-quality outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Responsibilities
- Provide unit-based leadership, collaborating with the Nurse Manager/Director, physicians, and staff to coordinate care plans.
- Supervise and direct nursing and ancillary personnel, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and high-quality patient care.
- Conduct rounds to assess patient needs, introduce self to patients and families, and identify opportunities to improve the patient experience.
- Initiate conferences with health team members and families to develop and revise care plans; monitor patient progress and adjust care as needed.
- Promote patient- and family-centered care, with attention to cultural diversity and individual preferences.
- Lead quality improvement efforts related to patient safety, satisfaction, and care outcomes; address concerns and solicit feedback.
Requirements
- Licenses and certifications: Registered Nurse (RN) license in California; current BLS/HLS as applicable; ACLS; NRP; ALCS; AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS; AHA-NRP or ARC-NALS; AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS; Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification required.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Experience: At least two years of recent nursing field experience; five years preferred; supervisory experience required with demonstrated leadership as a charge nurse.
- Clinical: Strong clinical leadership in acute care; ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams; demonstrated excellence in patient safety and quality of care.
- Other: Ability to work in a fast-paced unit-based setting, no required on-call duties, and capable of performing duties during night shifts.
