Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide safe, structured care for patients in crisis on an inpatient psychiatric unit; may involve a Milieu Counselor under RN supervision
- Monitor and document vital signs (VS), intake and output, and other clinical data; notify the supervising RN of any changes
- Support activities of daily living (ADLs) and assist with basic nursing tasks as directed
- Participate in safety checks, de-escalation, and patient supervision to maintain a therapeutic milieu
- Facilitate or co-facilitate group activities and 1:1 interactions as assigned, documenting observations in the electronic health record (EMR)
- Adhere to unit policies, infection control practices, and regulatory requirements; assist with routine charting and care coordination
Requirements
- Experience: Prior human services, behavioral health, or psychiatric experience strongly preferred; inpatient psychiatric experience preferred
- Education: High school diploma required; BA/BS or MA preferred or equivalent years of human service experience
- Certifications: Current BLS (American Heart Association) required; CPI orientation as part of unit training
- EMR: EPIC experience preferred
- Submissions: Up-to-date resume with 1–2 years of milieu counseling or inpatient behavioral health experience; travel experience preferred
- References: Two recent Charge RN/Manager/Supervisor references matching specialty
- Additional: Flu vaccine required during season; RTO requests must be included at submission and are not guaranteed after confirmation
- Other: Valid driver’s license with address matching demographics; ability to work every other weekend and every other major holiday; may float to other units as needed
