Responsibilities
- Deliver coordinated nursing care for adolescent patients on inpatient behavioral health units following the nursing process.
- Supervise and direct activities of nursing staff; coordinate care with a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Administer medications, perform comprehensive assessments, and document findings per policy.
- Develop and implement care plans; monitor progress, promote safety, and respond to behavioral crises with de-escalation techniques.
- Participate in discharge planning, patient and family education, and effective communication with the treatment team.
- Delegate appropriately and collaborate with mental health technicians to ensure safe, therapeutic care.
Requirements
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (California) required.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM/TEAM-A) required; ACLS and PALS (AHA or ARC) required.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Experience: At least 2 years of recent inpatient behavioral health nursing experience; familiarity with two behavioral health units is preferred.
- Skills: Ability to work night shifts in a high-acuity adolescent behavioral health setting; strong assessment, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate with mental health staff and support a recovery-focused environment.
