Position Information The Travel Division Administration Section is seeking a motivated college student to work full-time as a year-round intern supporting both the Special Projects Team and the Travel Information Centers. This position provides hands-on experience in communications, marketing, social media management, tourism promotion, and public outreach while contributing to initiatives that support the Texas Department of Transportation’s Travel Division. Position Description

Will assist with social media and communications activities specifically for the Travel Information Centers while working closely with the Special Projects Team and TIC staff. Duties may include helping develop, schedule, and publish TIC-related social media posts, assisting with program content, monitoring TIC social media accounts for engagement opportunities, responding to comments and messages as directed, creating graphics and multimedia content, tracking performance metrics, researching industry trends, and helping implement social media campaigns that promote Texas travel, tourism, and TIC services.Employees at this level perform work following established guidelines and procedures and receive direction and regular feedback from their supervisor. Assignments provide opportunities to develop professional skills in communications, marketing, project coordination, customer engagement, and public service.Essential Duties:

  • Perform administrative and clerical duties as assigned
  • Create, schedule, and publish social media content specifically for Travel Information Center programs and services.
  • Assist with developing Travel Information Center (TIC) social media campaigns, program updates, and promotional strategies.
  • Assist with managing TIC social media accounts, including monitoring activity, engagement, and basic performance metrics.
  • Create and edit graphics, photos, videos, and other digital content.
  • Research travel, tourism, and industry-related topics for content development.
  • Assist with event promotion and public outreach efforts.
  • Maintain digital content libraries and organizational records.
  • Track campaign performance and prepare summary reports.
  • Collaborate with the Special Projects Team and TIC staff on social media, special projects, and communication initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:Education: Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.Other Conditions:Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.Preferred Qualifications:• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university, preferably as a junior or senior.

  • Coursework in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, digital media, business, tourism, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using social media platforms and content creation tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
