We are seeking an experienced Cytotechnologist for a 13-week travel assignment in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
This position is ideal for a certified cytotechnology professional with at least 2 years of recent experience who is skilled in microscopic evaluation of cellular specimens, identification of abnormal findings, and collaboration with pathologists.
The Cytotechnologist will examine and interpret cytologic specimens, maintain quality and productivity standards, and support accurate and timely diagnostic results in accordance with CAP, CLIA, laboratory, and facility requirements.
Candidates must hold current CT (ASCP) certification and meet applicable education and qualification requirements for Cytotechnologists.
Key Responsibilities
· Examine cytology specimens microscopically for cellular abnormalities.
· Screen gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology specimens as assigned.
· Identify normal, atypical, suspicious, and malignant cellular findings.
· Refer abnormal or complex findings to the pathologist for review.
· Maintain a high level of diagnostic accuracy and consistency.
· Document findings accurately and completely.
· Correlate cytology findings with relevant clinical and laboratory information when appropriate.
· Prepare and review slides according to established laboratory procedures.
· Maintain productivity within applicable regulatory and professional standards.
· Support quality assurance and quality control activities within the cytology department.
· Participate in proficiency testing and continuing competency activities.
· Maintain proper specimen identification and chain of custody.
· Follow laboratory safety, infection-control, and regulatory requirements.
· Maintain equipment, supplies, and work areas in accordance with department standards.
· Communicate effectively with pathologists, laboratory staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
· Assist with troubleshooting workflow or specimen-quality issues.
· Maintain confidentiality of patient and laboratory information.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have:
· CT (ASCP) certification / registration
· Minimum 2 years of Cytotechnologist experience
· Associate degree or higher
· Graduation from an ABHES-accredited cytotechnology program or another qualifying program recognized by applicable federal or CAP standards
· Ability to meet current CAP/CLIA qualification requirements for Cytotechnologists
· Strong knowledge of cytomorphology and cytologic diagnostic principles
· Strong attention to detail and diagnostic accuracy
· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with pathologists
· Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance and regulatory requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Strong candidates may also have:
· Bachelor's degree
· More than 2 years of recent cytotechnology experience
· Hospital-based laboratory experience
· Experience with both gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology
· Fine needle aspiration cytology experience
· Previous travel or contract laboratory experience
· Experience in a CAP-accredited laboratory
· Strong familiarity with cytology laboratory information systems
Productivity & Quality Expectations
Candidates should be comfortable working within established cytology workload and quality standards.
Typical expectations may include:
· Screening approximately 60–80 slides per day, subject to applicable CAP workload limits and pathologist oversight
· Maintaining diagnostic interpretations that are consistently aligned with pathologist or consultant review
· Following all established workload, quality-control, and documentation requirements
