Job Description



The Trauma Program Registrar is responsible and accountable for the direction, coordination, and
maintenance of the trauma registry and its data submission to the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems
Foundation (PTSF).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  1. Graduate of a Health Information Management Technology Program
  2. Will consider candidates with a degree in a healthcare related field

Experience:

  1. 1 year full time experience for candidates who graduated from a Health Information Management Technology Program or degree in a healthcare related field
  2. Preference will be given to candidates with at least one of the following:
    1. Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) certification
    2. Previous trauma program abstraction experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of the clinical content of a medical record, including medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and disease processes
  2. Thorough and accurate data management skills
  3. Proficiency in data base management
  4. Ability to effectively manage multiple demands and priorities

License/Certification/Registration:

  1. Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) certification will be given first preference

Receives general supervision from the Supervisor, Quality & Patient Safety

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Regular and active interface with the Trauma Program Coordinator, Trauma Program Medical Director, and the external agencies associated with the trauma program
  2. Active participation in the Trauma Steering Committee and other related trauma program committees
  3. Maintains strict data collection compliance training with system methodology in relation to the data management platform and trauma program, including ICD- 10 and CPT II coding
  4. Development and on- going maintenance of an Interrater Reliability process
  5. Supports the Performance Improvement & Patient Safety (PIPS) Program through the coordination, analysis and dissemination of performance data related to the Trauma Program
  6. Active participation in survey readiness and site survey activities
  7. Maintains a strong working knowledge of clinical abstraction methodology, medical terminology and the clinical content of medical records including basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs additional assignments as delegated by supervisory personnel within the scope of responsibility
