The nurse registrar assists the Trauma Program Director (TPD) with the overall management of the trauma registry, to include data management and validation of data. The trauma nurse registrar works collaboratively with the TPD to produce appropriate reports for the monthly Trauma Operations meeting to show trends and current initiatives. In addition the trauma nurse registrar will provide appropriate reports for regional quality management, trauma research, epidemiologic, and injury prevention activities. The Trauma Nurse Registrar is the primary resource for the non-nurse trauma registrars. Performs monthly audits for the trauma registrars for correctness of data entry. Assists the TPD in coaching and educating the non-nurse registrars on registry changes, data entry errors and timeliness of chart completion. Actively participates in report and documentation preparation for American College of Surgeons and County Site Surveys. The majority of the trauma nurse registrar's responsibility (90% or greater) is related to the registry and as described above. The trauma nurse registrar may be required to assist with performance improvement initiatives as the need arises. Works collaboratively with the TPD, Trauma Medical Director, and the Trauma Performance Improvement coordinator to identify and trend quality issues. Must be able to work independently , demonstrating dedication, high productivity, and self management in a fast paced environment while meeting strict deadlines.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Active California RN LicenseBLS Healthcare Provider Certification through the American Heart AssociationGraduate from an accredited school of nursing. Registered Nurse with a minimum of two years' experience in trauma, critical care, or emergency nursing.

RN, State of California. Trauma Registry course completed within twelve months (Paid for by Scripps Health).

Preferred Qualifications:Minimum one year experience working with medical records of injured patients. Working knowledge of ICD- 10 coding, AIS, ISS, and AAAM Coding. Excellent interpersonal relationshipsAbility to work in a fast-paced environment. Evidence of advanced computer skills: data base maintenance, word processing, spread sheets, presentation software, flow charting, relational data base programs. Previous Trauma Registry experience preferred. Bachelors degree in health related field highly preferred
