
Part Time (40 Hours/Biweekly)
Shift: Evening/Nights
Position Function: To provide transportation of patients to and from treatment areas, and to maintain general transportation/mobility of supplies and equipment.
Unit Based Essential Functions and Responsibilities
1. Does not tolerate those who create, foster, or condone an intimidating, hostile, offensive or abrasive work environment.
2. Shows respect for patients by knocking on door before entering room, and making proper inquiries before going behind drawn curtains in patient rooms.
3. Utilizes appropriate, mechanical means or equipment to position, lift, transfer, or transport patients in a manner that minimizes the risk of personal and patient injury and that fosters proper body mechanics and procedures.
4. Assists in other related functions as assigned.
5. Safely transports patients to and from treatment areas, ensures that each patient is properly attired to ensure personal dignity and respect during transport.
6. Ensures that all procedures with regards to signing patients on and off the nursing unit or within the department are in compliance.
7. Responds to inquiries, phone calls,etc., in a professional and positive manner that enhances the image of the department and its staff.
8. Refers all patient inquiries regarding their care or their status to the appropriate professional in a manner that conveys positive recognition and enhancement of the departments chain of command.
9. Assists with patient lifts and transfers when indicated.
10. Observes patient’s condition during transport and reports changes in patient’s condition to clinical personnel.
11. Assists in orientation of new personnel serving as a “buddy” to new transporters.
12. Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
13. Performs external cardiac compressions to patients during ERT activities if required.
14. Follows hospital patient safety standards.
15. Has knowledge of dispatcher function and is able to temporarily fill that job function.
16. Transports medications within the hospital as requested and needed according to Hospital policy.
Qualifications and Standards
Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience: Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required. Experience in health care preferred. Knowledge of orthopedic appliances, traction equipment, and their various uses helpful.
Certifications/Licensure: Current CPR certification required.
