Job Description

 
 
Transports patients from their rooms to the ancillary departments.
 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 
1.
Transports patients to the appropriate department using the appropriate equipment to ensure the safety of the patient
 
2.
Has an understanding of the medical condition of the patient being transported in order to ensure the safety of the patient
 
3.
Operation of equipment is performed in a safe and smooth manner so that the patient is not disturbed
 
4.
Use of personal protective equipment is utilized as instructed
 
5.
Equipment is maintained in proper working condition
 
6.
Repairs are reported to the supervisor and the equipment is tagged and removed from service.
 
7.
Displays a professional demeanor at all times. Uniform will be in compliance with the department policy and is clean/pressed for daily use. Patient/public and customer contact is professional and all requests are handled with a sense of urgency.
 
8.
Assignments are completed quickly and accurately without having to be prompted
 
9.
Maintains confidentiality of patient and hospital information. As patients are transported from one area to another, patient information is keep form public view
 
10.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job related hazards, and national patient safety goals.
 
11.
Ensures positive customer relations interactions
 
Manages difficult or emotional customer situations
 
Responds promptly to customer needs
 
Solicits customer feedback to improve service
 
Responds to requests for service and assistance

Must be able to work with all age groups from infant to the elderly. Must have good communication skills

Complies with having an Annual TB Skin test performed

Completes BLS training and maintains certification as required

Attends Customer Service Training and In Services as required

Working Conditions
 
Exposed to low levels of noise.
 
May be exposed to blood and body fluids.
 
Requires wearing gloves and body protection as needed.
 
Requires standing and walking more than 75% of the time
 
Requires sitting less than 35% of the time.
 
Requires carrying up to 25 lbs. more than 35% but less than 75% of the time.
 
Requires lifting and pulling objects (i.e. patients) weighing up to 200 lbs., with assistance, more than 35% but less than 75% of the time.
 
Requires pushing objects weighing up to 200 lbs. more than 75% of the time.
 
Requires bending and twisting more than 35% but less than 75% of the time.
 
Requires reaching more than 35% but less than 75% of the time.
 
Requires fingering and grasping objects more than 35% but less than 75% of the time.
 
Requires talking more than 35% but less than 75% of the time.
