Job Description

We are seeking a Transportation/Routing Supervisor to join our team at the Minneapolis Milk Plant in Minneapolis, MN. In this key leadership role, you will oversee the scheduling and dispatch of drivers to ensure products are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time. You will play a critical role in optimizing transportation operations, resolving routing and delivery challenges, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet customer expectations. This position offers the opportunity to lead by example, support team development, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced distribution environment.

Shift: 1st shift

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide daily work directions to professional drivers to ensure safe and efficient operations and to meet customer requirements; maintain daily activity assignments of tractors, trailers, trucks, and drivers.
  • Schedule and dispatch daily loads/shipments (raw milk, products/goods) to meet customer needs and optimize routes to reduce costs and elevate overall efficiency.
  • Dispatch approved drivers to appropriate loads based on availability, capacity, and delivery deadlines; confirm load date/time and delivery date/time.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between drivers, customers, and internal Communicate delivery instructions, customer changes, address issues, and provide updates on shipment status.
  • Create employee schedules, approve time, resolve timekeeping issues, monitor overtime, and take appropriate actions to meet established goals.

  • Maintain up-to-date copies of routes; manage the utilization of routing software to increase route efficiency, lower costs, and meet customer demands.
  • Ensure all daily paperwork associated with each load is properly completed. This may include trip information to provide mileage information for reports to DOT, driver vehicle inspection and driver logs (as appropriate), repair/maintenance activity, billing activity, delivery tickets, etc.
  • Prepare and distribute operational reports (KPI’s).
  • Input and maintain accurate records and data in systems, spreadsheets, (customer proof of delivery, bills of lading files, receiving credits, customer receipts, delivery schedules carrier/hauler info, costs, and other relevant data). Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports.
  • Assemble orders that make up outgoing Maximize carrier load weights and volume by coordinating orders with other company depots, plants, warehouses, etc.
  • Monitor the progress of deliveries from start/load assembly to delivery to the Use tracking systems to monitor the location and status of trucks and shipments. Address any delays or issues promptly.
  • Be available to respond to emergencies or other unexpected operational requirements (i.e., nights, weekends, or holidays). Participate in on-call rotation if applicable.
  • Ensure all dispatch activities comply with federal and state transportation Keep up to date with changes in laws and regulations affecting the trucking and/or dairy industry.
  • Address customer inquiries and concerns regarding delivery times, delays, and other related Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through effective communication and problem resolution.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 to 4 years of dispatching, logistics, transportation, or related experience.
  • Class A commercial driver’s license is preferred, or willing to obtain.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Excel with the ability to filter large amounts of data, i.e. Pivot Tables.
  • Experience utilizing warehouse management, inventory, and other company computer systems to support daily operations and reporting.
  • Knowledge of the geographic region being supported and logistics and transportation regulations.
  • Analyze and decide on different logistical movements and adjustments with the intent to optimize.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals.
  • Problem solve difficult or uncommon issues and make quick decisions under pressure while remaining calm and composed.
  • Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment.
