Job Description

Oversee all labor and trucking resources for transportation and delivery of refrigerated product to northern New England customers. Develop structures, route strategies, and programs in support of an effective transportation plan.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a strong, cohesive, and collaborative team of supervisors that are accountable, firm, and fair with their subordinates and work collaboratively with supervisory peers in other departments.
  • Drive a safety culture that ensures safety is the first priority each and every day. Support that objective with detailed oversight, timely behavioral coaching, leading safety objectives and effective use of driver safety systems to achieve operational excellence.
  • Develop and refine efficient management procedures, structure and job aids to drive efficiency and consistency throughout leadership to front-line employees.
  • Develop annual goals and maintain management metrics that measure a variety of indicators such as labor costs, fuel usage, service times, sequence adherence, and fulfillment accuracy.
  • Evaluate and improve plan vs. actual measures to drive on-time delivery fulfillment and optimization.
  • Monitor all FMCSA SMS metrics to achieve favorable indicators relative to carrier metrics, drivers and equipment. Maintain an “Audit Ready” workforce and system.
  • Develop creative employment and functional strategies that attract and retain the best employees through use of attractive schedules, route selection, and incentive programs.
  • Develop and/or execute training programs that provide knowledge to new employees and coach seasoned employees with valuable programs and resources.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure appropriate treatment of employees regarding recruitment, performance reviews, workers’ compensation, workplace injuries and employee relations issues.
  • Develop and maintain supervisory schedules that maximize supervisor interaction with employees while maintaining optimal compliance and oversight.
  • Exhibit the values and ethics of Dairy Farmers of America through honesty, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Adhere to all DFA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for Quality, Safety, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF) policies and procedures and report any nonconformity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, or five years in a transportation management role
  • May be required to obtain/maintain other certifications and/or licenses for continued employment
  • Availability for response to extreme emergencies or other unexpected operational requirements (i.e. nights, weekends, or holidays).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general transportation logistics practices, processes, regulations, and equipment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to effectively utilize specialized internal applications and systems to support logistics operations
  • Knowledge of principles and effective practice of supervision, training, and personnel management
  • Knowledge of FMCSA and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations related to interstate CMV operation
  • Skill in analysis of transportation cost alternatives and scenarios
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Clear, concise professional verbal and written communication
  • Able to adapt and manage to change effectively
  • Able to handle conflict and challenging situations with tact and professionalism
  • Ability to independently manage concurrent activities and consistently meet deadlines
  • Able to read, write, and speak English
