Transportation Specialist IV (12-months)

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under direction of the Transportation Supervisor, the Transportation Specialist IV provides support to transportation and fleet management activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:

  • Coordinate, facilitate, and/or schedule operational requirements in support of student transportation.
  • Follow, develop and revise rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to the daily operational requirements of Transportation.
  • Effectively and professionally handle transportation issues with contractors, parents and administrators.
  • Perform safety checks and audits to insure routes are scheduled to prevent potential accident situations.
  • Investigate complaints regarding drivers conduct and/or driving behaviors. Compile reports to be reviewed with the Supervisor and contractors.
  • Assist in the preparation of bus scheduling including all facets of establishing routes for student transportation needs of the District.
  • Perform any other such duties assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Below are the qualifications for this position:

  • College Degree preferred with at least three (3) years' experience in transportation preferred.
  • Experience in a supervising role.
  • Knowledge of Delaware school bus traffic laws, safety practices, and scheduling routes.
  • A valid State of Delaware commercial license - preferred.
  • Knowledge of New Castle County and/or Appoquinimink School District routes/bus operations preferred.
  • Ability to work professionally with all levels of school administration, Transportation Services Department staff, and maintain professional and courteous relations with parents and the public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, fingering, standing, walking, pushing, reaching, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Incumbents may be subject to travel, mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases,

poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, and intense noise.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
