
Join the El Paso District Construction Office team as a Transportation Specialist II, III, or IV and play a critical role in delivering impactful transportation projects that connect and serve our communities. In this dynamic position, you will monitor the progress and performance of construction projects, ensuring work is completed in accordance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements. You will collaborate closely with Area Offices to provide technical guidance on construction methods, resolve field issues, and support effective contract administration. Your expertise will be essential in reviewing and guiding change orders, promoting consistency, accuracy, and compliance with established procedures and standards. Additionally, you will participate in final construction inspections and oversee traffic control operations to ensure safety and quality in the field. This role requires a strong commitment to maintaining compliance with PS&E, as well as state and federal regulations, while upholding the high standards expected for public infrastructure projects. Salary Range:
Transp. Specialist I (B20): $51,158 - $81,351 annually
Transp. Specialist II B21): $54,278 - $87,046 annually
Transp. Specialist III (B22): $57,614 - $93,138 annually

Transportation Specialist II
Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving multiple design and/or building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Transportation Specialist III
Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving multiple design and/or advanced building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and oversight, and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. [Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Transportation Specialist IV
Provides [high-level] technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving multiple design and/or advanced building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and oversight, and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education for Transportation Specialist II, III, and IV Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience for Transportation Specialist II 4 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Experience for Transportation Specialist III 5 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Experience for Transportation Specialist IV 5 years transportation design, construction, traffic operations, maintenance, bridge inspection experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Licenses and Certifications Valid US driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
