Associated Students Summary
Associated Students’ (A.S.) mission is to support and represent the students of San José State University by continuing the organization’s legacy of student advocacy and leadership; to enhance SJSU students’ education through high quality programs and services; and to prepare students as they move towards a thoughtful and purposeful life after graduation.
A.S. is a non-profit auxiliary corporation serving the students of San Jose State University whose primary source of funding is from mandatory student body fees. A.S. Departments include the Cesar Chavez Community Action Center, Child Development Center, General Services Center, Human Resources, Information Technology, Events, Marketing, Print & Technology Center, Student Government, and Transportation Solutions.
The Student Assistant plays a key role in promoting and implementing Transportation Solutions (TS) programs that make sustainable commuting easier, more affordable, and more accessible for the SJSU community. Established over two decades ago and funded by student fees, TS is dedicated to reducing single-occupant driving to campus, encouraging the use of public transit, and helping students travel safely and affordably so they can focus on their education—not their commute.
In this position, the Student Assistant serves as the first point of contact for students and community members who visit the front desk, call, or email. As the face of our department, this role helps create a welcoming and professional first impression while assisting commuters with their transportation needs. The Student Assistant contributes to the creation of marketing/informational/wayfinding materials, responds to student inquiries, provides personalized trip-planning support, supports data analysis for transit programs, and engages the campus community through creative outreach activities.
Collaboration is key in this role. The Student Assistant works closely with the Associated Students Marketing Department, the General Services Center, other A.S. and SJSU departments, and occasionally with outside agencies and community partners to ensure programs and services are effectively coordinated, promoted, and accessible to all.
