Job Description

Vanderbilt University is seeking reliable, customer-focused Transportation Drivers to support our campus shuttle operations. Drivers play a key role in providing safe, timely, and friendly transportation for students, faculty, staff, medical personnel, and visitors. This position supports both weekday and weekend service, including our expanding daytime shuttle operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate university-owned shuttle buses and transportation vehicles along scheduled routes.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, greeting passengers and assisting those with mobility needs.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic regulations, as well as Vanderbilt University transportation policies.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any mechanical or safety concerns promptly.
  • Maintain shuttle cleanliness, including interior and exterior appearance.
  • Complete required logs, incident reports, and daily documentation accurately and on time.
  • Monitor passenger counts and provide feedback on route efficiency and service needs.
  • Support special events, peak-service days, and university activities as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with dispatch, supervisors, and fellow drivers to maintain reliable service operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Previous experience driving buses or equivalent large passenger vehicles.

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to work daytime and evening shifts, including weekends and holidays.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and assist passengers as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous CDL commercial driving experience

  • Experience operating ADA-accessible vehicles and using wheelchair securement systems.

  • Experience in university, medical, hospitality, or public transit transportation settings.

  • Knowledge of Nashville-area roadways.

Working Conditions

Operates in both indoor and outdoor environments across various weather conditions. Exposure to vehicle noise and city traffic.
