Job Description
This role is responsible for executing and optimizing the transportation bid management process, with a strong emphasis on data analysis, system accuracy, and operational efficiency. The position plays a critical role in evaluating bid activity, identifying trends in carrier pricing and performance, and ensuring insights are translated into actionable procurement decisions. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage and analyze large datasets while maintaining precise system updates across bid and carrier award platforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage End-to-End Bid Lifecycle Execution
Coordinate weekly transportation bid cycles, including bid launch, monitoring, closeout, data extraction, and final submission to procurement stakeholders in alignment with established timelines.
- Maintain Carrier Awards in Proprietary TMS/System
Serve as the primary owner of carrier routing guide accuracy through the creation, update, modification, and deactivation of carrier awards, ensuring system data reflects current procurement decisions.
- Execute High-Volume System Updates with Precision
Perform bulk and manual uploads of awarded rates, lane changes, and carrier assignments into internal systems (e.g., routing guides), ensuring strict adherence to data integrity standards.
- Support Bid Management Platform Activity
Prepare, format, and upload lane files into bid management software (e.g., Jaggaer), including ongoing maintenance of bid templates, file structures, and required data fields.
- Perform Detailed Data Validation & Quality Control
Review bid files, identify actionable lanes (e.g., awarded/“ready” lanes), reconcile discrepancies, and ensure all bid outputs are complete, accurate, and aligned prior to system upload.
- Analyze Bid Activity & Market Trends
Conduct analysis on bid results, carrier participation, pricing trends, and service performance to support procurement decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
Conduct analysis on the current transportation network in comparison to industry benchmarks (DAT, FTR, etc.).
- Manage Weekly Bid Processing Cadence
Execute against a structured weekly schedule or executed against bid requirements ad hoc as needed.
- Coordinate Cross-Functional Procurement Activities
Partner with procurement managers, operations, and cross-functional teams to ensure bid inputs, carrier recommendations, and routing guides are aligned and executed accurately.
- Maintain Organized File Management & Workflow Tracking
Manage multiple concurrent bid files, ensuring clear version control, accurate file status tracking (e.g., “in progress,” “needs work,” “complete”), and seamless handoffs between stakeholders.
- Drive Continuous Improvement in Bid & System Processes
Identify inefficiencies in bid processing, file management, and system updates; recommend and implement improvements to enhance speed, accuracy, and scalability.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS (include education, certifications/licenses, experience, language, mathematical, computer, level of reasoning, physical demands and preferences (a plus):
Education and Experience Requirement
Minimum:
- 3 years experience in supply chain transportation operations at an analyst level – or transportation procurement experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Supply Chain or Logistics preferred
Language and Technical Skills requirement
- MS Office (advanced functionality to include pivot tables, v-lookups, multi-axis charts, etc.), Outlook, other database applications
- Bid Management software (i.e. Jaggaer, Coupa)
- Transportation Management System software (i.e. MercuryGate, McLeod)
- Master Data Management platform (i.e. 24TRACC)
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external contacts
- General understanding of business and transportation terms and concepts
- Uses a broad range of internal and external factors in identifying and solving problems.
- Ability to distill data and find root problems, alternatives, and recommend course of action
