Your Opportunity

As a Transportation Planner, specializing in urban mobility, transit and public engagement, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team on multiple, high-profile projects for a range of public sector clients. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a collaborative team of engineers, planners, and landscape architects to address the most pressing issues facing our communities and be part of a team that develops creative planning solutions to address changing land-use and infrastructure demands. You’ll be encouraged to be a creative leader, dedicated to meshing the emerging trends in urban mobility including pedestrian, bicycle and transit infrastructure with the best practices of transportation planning and equitable community engagement. Your fundamental knowledge, planning and communication skills will contribute to the growth of a thriving transportation planning practice within the North Central region. Potential projects include everything from complex urban mobility studies to more routine corridor studies and system-wide transportation planning efforts.

Your Key Responsibilities

You can expect opportunities to lead projects as a project manager as well as provide support on projects that include but are not limited to:

  • Complete Streets Design (Reconstructions and Retrofit)

  • Pedestrian and Bicycle Infrastructure Plans & Capital Projects
  • Creative Public Engagement
  • Public Sector Policy Development and Design
  • Safe Routes to School & Safe Streets for All Planning
  • Streetscape & Urban Designer

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to analyze, interpret, evaluate, and solve complex issues using sound professional judgment, creativity, innovation and strategic thinking
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely to make and support recommendations
  • Experience supporting multiple transportation projects and prioritizing work appropriately
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently on multiple projects and adapt as priorities change to meet deadlines
  • Ability to perform analytical, technical and design related duties for the development of a variety of transportation projects including bicycle, pedestrian, and transit
  • Experience with principles and practices of complete streets in urban transportation planning for all modes of travel
  • Participate in, coordinate, and host public and stakeholder meetings for urban and transportation planning projects
  • Ability to strategize and implement creative & equitable public engagement, including comfort with representing client projects in public meetings
  • Knowledge of NEPA requirements and related environmental regulations
  • Awareness of current street design guidance, particularly NACTO, local, state, and federal design/planning principles and procedures in relevant jurisdictions
  • Excellent technical writing skills - the ability to prepare, edit, format and produce technical reports and displays
  • Graphic skills in InDesign including the development of project-based communications, exhibits and renderings of concept level designs and layouts
  • Knowledge and experience using GIS is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
  • Responsible for completion of other efforts/projects as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or Urban/Regional Planning; and/or a minimum of 1-5 years of experience in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
  • Accreditation is not required but is an asset as the successful applicant will be encouraged to complete the accreditation process for a Professional Engineer (PE), a Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) or American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) credential.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Travel may be required for project collaborations and work outside of the North Central region.

Anticipated Start Date: We are seeking a candidate able to start in late May, with some flexibility available.
