Job Description

IDEXX Laboratories is seeking a skilled Transportation Network Planner to join our UK & Ireland team. In this dual-focus role, you will spend 60% of your time ensuring timely collections and deliveries, and 40% supporting the Northern Regional Transportation Manager. Working closely with the Northern Regional Transportation Manager, you will manage inbound, outbound, and interplant logistics across all modes of transport. Your goal will be to optimize courier routes, improve operational efficiency, and develop strategic proposals to enhance our overall transport network.

This is a hybrid role requiring to be in the office in Wetherby 1 day per week.

Hours of Work – 37.5 hours – Mon – Fri (with occasional Saturdays as required)

In this role you will:

  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions to boost service efficiency.

  • Design and optimise profitable courier routes specifically tailored for diagnostic sample collection.

  • Lead the rollout of new routes by collaborating with internal teams, stakeholders, and suppliers.

  • Monitor performance metrics and report progress against key targets.

  • Create and present data-driven proposals to enhance network performance.

  • Draft Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and clear working instructions.

  • Ensure all vehicle routing is both cost-effective and compliant with service level agreements.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience with Excel macros, formula reading and writing is a distinct advantage.

  • Route Planning: Proven transport experience, using route optimisation software; familiarity with tools such as Verizon Connect, PTV/Paragon, or Map & Guide is desirable.

  • Analytical Mindset: Experience or a strong interest in statistical modelling and data analysis, including techniques such as Monte-Carlo analysis.

  • Automation & Development Interest: An interest in developing, improving, or adapting code, scripts, or automated processes to enhance operational efficiency and data analysis. Knowledge of API connections and Python script is highly desirable.

  • Core Skills: Exceptional organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Collaboration: Ability to build effective cross-functional relationships across all levels of the business, with the occasional need to present on transport specific topics.

  • Flexibility: Ability to commit to a 37.5-hour working week, including occasional finishes at 18:30.
