Transportation Lead
I. General Description: The purpose of the Transportation Lead position is to assist and support the school sites and the transportation department in creating and facilitating transportation opportunities for students to participate in various extracurricular activities regardless of home campus.
II. Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Must possess and maintain a valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona commercial driver's license with passenger and air brake endorsement
- Must possess at least one year experience in the operation of a school bus and school bus equipment
- Must understand and comply with all traffic laws
- Must possess and maintain a valid first aid and CPR certification
- Must successfully pass a drug screen urinalysis annually or as required
- Must possess an Arizona School Bus Driver Certificate by meeting state requirements and standards
- Must have working knowledge and experience with working with computers and other office equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbook, safety/training manuals
- Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others
- Ability to prioritize projects to meet deadlines
- Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance
- Must be able to push, pull, or lift up to 50 pound weight.
III. Preferred
- Transportation dispatch experience (preferred)
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Drives school bus on scheduled route transporting students to and from school.
- Transports students on educational field trips and sporting events, local and out of town.
- Maintains order among the passengers, supervises their behavior and enforces district standards of conduct on buses.
- Conducts emergency evacuation drills twice yearly.
- Administers first-aid when necessary.
- Maintains interior and exterior of the bus clean and neat.
- Makes minor seat repairs and removes graffiti.
- Services bus daily, including putting in fuel, oil, power steering fluid, coolant, windshield washer solvent, and fluid level in the battery.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections as specified in the
- Department of Transportation regulations.11. Checks the bus constantly for mechanical defects and needed repairs in accordance with the district bus safety program and reports defects or needed repairs on the daily inspection report.
- Keeps record of gas and oil usage, mileage, and the number of students transported as required.
- Attends monthly safety meetings.
- Performs a 15-minute bus check prior to driving a scheduled route.
- Must be able to react professionally for the safety of the students in the event of an emergency.
- Assists the Transportation Supervisor in the management of the Transportation Department.
- Prepares bus schedules, routes, and maps for drivers as it relates to extracurricular opportunities for students throughout the district.
- Assists the Transportation Supervisor in preparing memorandums outlining and explaining administrative procedures and policies, bus schedules, and driver schedules.
- Maintains an excellent working knowledge and application of bus routes, field trips requirements, schedules, and vehicle reservation requirements.
- Maintains accurate records for state reporting and audits.
- Assists the Transportation Supervisor in creating and submitting required reports for the state and for auditing purposes.
- Learn, implement and manage the rider verification and routing software.
- Create and facilitate training to drivers and school office staff relative to the rider verification and router software as may be necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Special Characteristics and Requirements
Employees of this class of position perform under the general supervision of the Transportation Supervisor and the Director of Operations. Lives of others depend on the safe operation of buses. Drivers must be of good moral character, reliable, safety conscious, dependable, neat and clean, able to get along with others, of sound physical condition, free of use of intoxicating or consciousness influencing substances and emotionally stable (patient, calm under stress, even tempered, and considerate).

- While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds in various directions. Must be able to pass all bus driver agility tests which includes pulling 125 pounds a distance of 30 feet in 30 seconds.
- Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the workday.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- The employee may frequently work in outside weather conditions.
- Office and field environment with frequent interaction at bus yards.
- May require early mornings, afternoons, and occasional evening or weekend work.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and changing conditions as needed.

EVALUATION: Performance for this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of Board Policy GDO - Evaluation of Support Staff Members.

Terms of Employment: 1.0 FTE, Full Time; 40hrs/week; 255 Day Work Calendar
Compensation Range: Classified Hourly Placement Schedule; Per Year, and District Benefits Package
