HR Specialist 1: Talent Acquisition

If you enjoy public speaking, hitting the road, and connecting with people about their futures, stepping into the role of Recruiter for the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) might be your perfect match. As an HR Specialist 1 within our Career Services section, you get to serve as a key ambassador for WVDOT, building an outreach recruitment program from the ground up to get students excited about having long-term careers with us.

At its core, this job is all about building connections and staying organized. You'll spend plenty of time traveling to middle and high schools across the state to meet directly with students, teachers, and school counselors. Your main goal is to introduce students in 8th grade through their senior year of high school to career paths in engineering, accounting, business, information technology, and opportunities in our transportation worker program. Along the way, you'll help create engaging marketing materials tailored for this audience, track and report all outreach efforts, and assist the broader Career Services team with interviewing, reviewing applications, and training.

To thrive in this position, you'll need strong public speaking skills, plenty of enthusiasm, and a valid driver's license for all the travel involved. Because event schedules can vary, flexibility for occasional evening work is essential. Most importantly, you should be ready to learn the ins and outs of WVDOT so you can share our mission clearly and help shape the future of our workforce!
