By joining our Utilities Section as a Transportation Engineering Technologist Supervisor, in Pulaski County,
you’ll have the opportunity to supervise the day-to-day activities of utility relocation for the District 8
Project Development Branch.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Supervise and schedule the Utility section workload to meet letting schedules
Meet with Utility owners and consultant engineers offering input and keeping them informed of the status and
priority of projects in development
Inspect field utility relocation work and verify they are complete
Represent utility interests on project team meetings and informing the project team of updated utility
estimates
Meet with property owners to resolve questions and conflicts that they may have regarding utility
relocations on projects

Ideal candidate will have experience in:

Must be able to use KURTS
Plan reading
Check and pay estimates due to utility contractors and consultants

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, computer science, data science, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology. OR Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Four years of engineering-related experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
1. Possess a valid EIT certification issued by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors

OR

2. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate degree in an engineering field

OR

3. High school

OR

4. High school

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
1. Must have four years of engineering-related experience with the first education option above;

OR

2. Must have seven years of engineering-related experience with the second education option above;

OR

3. Must have ten years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the third education option above;

OR

4. Must have ten years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified Inspection Team Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the fourth education option above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites and other types of work zones which require the following of safety procedures.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
