Summary

(Bamberg Construction Unit) Assists in construction inspections under limited supervision, on the thermoplastic, raised pavement markers, guardrail and other projects. Ensures pavement markings are placed as indicated on project plans and in accordance with temperature restrictions and standard drawings. Keep diaries and field notes and completed routine forms on Director of Construction site. Assists certified inspectors in obtaining necessary construction samples. Duties include obtaining material samples to be tested, entering sample information into AASHTOWare Project to generate sample ID and performing some test under direct supervision. Gains experience in inspection and sampling in different disciplines of construction in preparation to become a certified inspector in those areas. Assist in administrative duties as directed by supervisor. Assist in traffic and erosion control inspections with intentions of becoming certified in these areas. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Examples of duties

A high school diploma; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
