Transportation Engineer Tech I Performs basic design work and calculations. performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Essential Duties:Performs basic design work.Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex assignments.Prepares field notes.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.Works on reproduction of plans.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.Experience: No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum QualificationsLicenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with drafting software and plan preparation.Familiarity with traffic signals, roadway lighting, signing, pavement markings, or ITS.Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.Effective written and verbal communication skills.
