Your Opportunity

The Transportation Engineer will plan, design, and direct engineering projects that focus on transportation systems such as such as highways, streets, bridges, tunnels, drainage structures, roadway lighting, airports, railroads, and commuter trains, of a complex nature. They assess potential construction sites, check existing structures for upgrades, and create drawings and schematics of projects using computer-aided design (CAD) software. The Transportation Engineer approves and prepares proposals and cost estimates and evaluates all project progress and recommends changes. Represents project work in client meetings and continues to cultivate relationships with client organizations. May provide work leadership and training to more junior professional and technical staff and provides technical guidance to less experienced professionals or technicians assigned to work on a common project. Intermittently, investigates and advises on unusual and difficult problems encountered in the transportation engineering practice. Uses and applies advanced engineering principles and has a working knowledge of advanced technical research. Plans, conducts and coordinates engineering assignments, involving several smaller and some higher revenue projects, of varying complexity.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform broad, varied and diverse engineering design tasks on assigned projects under general supervision of the lead or manager, including engineering drawings, engineering reports, presentations, and required applications to regulatory and/or funding agencies. •
  • Engage in the development of design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats, and prepare and revise documentation in various engineering phases including site plans, utility plan/profiles, grading plans, cross sections, diagrams, submittal reviews and response to information requests as required.
  • Assist senior engineers/designers with developing and managing the project scope including cost estimates, budget, staffing and schedule.
  • Assist the senior project transportation engineer in preparing the conceptual, preliminary and final design and attends client project requirement meetings.
  • Involved in the permit process, which may require meetings with clients, contractors, reviewing agency personnel and governing entities.
  • Prepare portions of engineering project proposals, change orders, client contact and communication pertaining to specific projects.
  • Coordinate technical activities and designs with personnel in other disciplines and departments serve as a liaison between senior engineer and design team.
  • Prepare engineering feasibility studies by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation anticipate future legislation, enforce adherence to requirements, advise management on needed actions.
  • Confirm adherence to construction specifications during each phase of a project. Monitor project progress, inspect construction sites, and verify calculations and placements.
  • All other duties as required and assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree Engineering with an emphasis in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above is required.
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Ability to obtain PE license in state of work location required within 12 months.
