Your Opportunity

Our Transit & Rail team provides comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services for all phases of transit and rail projects. Our Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta offices are currently seeking Transportation Engineers-in-Training who will provide technical services during the design and construction of our extensive portfolio of projects. We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can work in a team environment and want to be involved in exciting local, regional and national projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • With guidance, perform geometric design and 3D modeling on a variety of urban and rural transit, rail, and roadway projects.
  • Support development of conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design plans and technical reports.
  • Assist with preparation of technical specifications and quantity estimates.
  • Assist with the preparation of engineering reports and technical studies, including basic calculations.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines including roadways, structural, geotechnical, stormwater, streetlighting, buildings engineering, and others to ensure interdisciplinary design integration.
  • Follow applicable standards, quality assurance and quality control procedures during the design process.
  • Undertake field reviews and prepare field observation reports to support engineering and construction administration activities.
  • Work to meet project timelines and budgets.
  • Additional duties may include assisting with project management, pursuits and proposal preparation.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Basic understanding of general civil design concepts in relevant areas.
  • Basic understanding of modelling software and knowledge of calculations performed by the software or software savvy with aspirations to develop 3D modeling skillset.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • High emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field).
  • Previous industry experience is not required. However, experience working in a professional engineering environment would be considered a significant asset.
  • Registered as an EIT in the Province of Alberta or ability to obtain within the next 6 months.

While Stantec offers the ability for hybrid working, this position will primarily work in an office setting and may require some field work.
