Transportation Engineer III/IV/V - Project Delivery Office - DAL-(2600070)Position Information

The Dallas District Project Delivery Office (PDO) is looking for Transportation Engineers to work on the District's numerous project portfolio managed within PDO. This position will have the opportunity to manage PS&E or Schematics projects including our robust District profile of major mobility projects. Engineers in this role will work with various departments within the District seeing how a project starts from concept, through final design completion, and letting to construction. This position will allow for great experience in major project development processes and management of consultant contracts.

This position is for a Transportation Engineer III, IV, V. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties for a Transportation Engineer III, IV, and V:

  • Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work
  • Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates
  • Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents
  • Represents the district at technical meetings and public hearings
  • Reviews schematics, PS&E, project designs on engineering transportation projects
  • Makes presentations and represents TxDOT
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Transportation Engineer III, IV, or V - Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience:

Transportation Engineer III - Experience: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basisSubstitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Transportation Engineer IV - Experience: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basisSubstitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Transportation Engineer V - Experience: 8 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Prof Engineer*

*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary Work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
