Salary Range:
Transportation Engineer II (B25): $90,000 - $114,099/annually
$7,500 - $9,508.25/monthly
Transportation Engineer III(B26): $96,000 - $129,430/annually
$8,000 - $10,785.83/monthly
Transportation Engineer IV (B27): $102,000 - $142,374/annually
$8,500 - $11,864.5/monthly

Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties
The essential duties for Transportation Engineer II include:Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for routine projects.Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.Meets with law enforcement agencies and/or city officials to discuss traffic problems and possible solutions.Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.The essential duties for Transportation Engineer III include:Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for complex projects.Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Acts as consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations.Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.The essential duties for Transportation Engineer IV include:Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Conducts final inspections on completed construction projects.Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for complex projects.Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Conducts pre-construction meetings and public hearings.Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specificationsResolves differences between contractors and inspectorsReviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.Trains engineering staff.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Transportation Engineer II, III or IV: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.Experience:
Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience.*
Transportation Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience.*
Transportation Engineer IV: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience.*
