Position Information TxDOT's Central Design C section is looking for a Transportation Engineer I or II based in our Headquarters Office in Houston, TX. As a Transportation Engineer, you will be a key part of our design team working on our district's major projects. This position requires a strong engineering background (knowledge and experience). This position also requires some engineering drafting skills to begin with and being a trusted and reliable team player when it comes to getting the job done. Position Description

Transportation Engineer IPerforms transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Essential Duties:Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparationDrives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations.Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other hydrology matters.Represents the district/division at various meetings.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for transportation projects.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IIPerforms complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:The essential duties for this job includes those listed above and the following:Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Trains engineering staff.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.Writes/reviews proposals and estimates for letting.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Minimum Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS. (Applicable to both levels)Transportation Engineer IExperience: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum QualificationsTransportation Engineer IIExperience: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
