As the next transportation engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing testing of low/moderate risk bridges and ancillary assets supported by research and investigations to develop testing plans and recommend appropriate actions, ensuring the safety and integrity of the structure.
  • Providing statewide support and engineering assistance to the asset owners (MDOT region offices/specialty areas) for investigation, monitoring, testing and evaluation of bridges, culverts and ancillary structures.
  • Performing short- and long-term monitoring of bridges, culverts and ancillary structures, including but not limited to tilt monitoring, strain measuring and scour.
  • Reviewing testing data collected by others (researchers, consultants, in-house technicians) and in coordination with senior staff and management, making recommendations based on findings.
  • Compiling and providing structure field inspection information for others to be used in the preparation of structure repair detailed engineering drawings.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (12) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

No specific type or amount is required.

Transportation Engineer 10
One year of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 9.

Transportation Engineer P11
Two years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer 10.

Transportation Engineer 12
Three years of professional engineering experience involved in transportation systems and programs equivalent to a Transportation Engineer, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Engineer P11.

Qualifications

Transportation Engineer 9 - 12

Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan may be substituted for 6 months of experience at the Transportation Engineer 9-12 levels. This substitution may only be used once for any employee for qualification of appointment or early reclassification.
