The Arc of Greater New Orleans (ArcGNO) is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful, independent lives. Since 1953, ArcGNO has provided advocacy, education, and support services to individuals and families across Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, and St. Tammany parishes.

Our programs include family support coordination, supported living services, employment and job coaching, community integration programs, and transportation services that help individuals thrive at home, at work, and in their communities.

Our Drivers are responsible for safely fulfilling our participants' transportation needs, including transporting them to and from our administrative facility in Metairie and to offsite events as needed. They are also tasked with keeping our vehicles clean and reporting any issues regarding vehicle maintenance and safety to their supervisor.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide safe and reliable transportation to passengers transported by the Arc
  • Ensuring all passengers are properly seated and secured in vehicles
  • Ensuring people in wheelchairs are safely secured
  • Ensuring proper supervision of passengers
  • Follow all safety protocols including reporting accidents, following all traffic safety laws, and ensuring the safety of all passengers
  • Maintains daily trip logs and other related paperwork

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older & have a valid driver’s license
  • Drivers must have a clean motor vehicle report and be insurable under the agency's insurance
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass DOT physical
  • Experience working alongside individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities is preferred
  • Knowledge of the New Orleans metro and surrounding areas

OUR SERVICES:

The ArcGNO Family Service Coordination staff works with families of infants (0-3 years) to assess needs and identify effective therapies and treatments. The Community Integration and Employment Services' staff helps IDD adults 18+ explore their options for the future after high school. With job coaching and placement, including our Mardi Gras Recycling Center and community center day programs. Our direct service providers in the Residential Support Services program assist with a variety of tasks in the home and around the community.
