Summary

The Transportation DMV Regional Office Assistant Manager in this position reports to the Moundsville DMV Regional Office in Marshall County. The selected applicant performs advanced level supervisory work overseeing the activities of DMV Agents in a Division of Motor Vehicles Regional Office. Completes annual performance appraisals, approves leave, makes recommendations, and is held responsible for the performance of the employees supervised. This position will assume the duties and responsibilities of the DMV Regional Office Manager in their absence. Performs related work as required.

Examples of duties

  • Performs work in an administrative capacity. This position is responsible for all duties associated with the scheduling of employees, assigning work, open and closure of the office daily, rotating with the DMV Regional Office Manager.
  • Audits DMV Agents at close of business and verifies transactions.
  • Interprets and applies departmental policies and regulations for employees and others in state government.
  • Advises subordinates in the processing of customers and operations of the office.
  • Assists customers in person regarding state law, policy, or procedures relating to the processes to include explaining fees, documentation, forms, taxes, and any other requirement incorporated in the driver or vehicle transaction process.
  • Reviews and interprets state code, policies, and procedures to ensure proficiency in the processing of transactions.
  • Will be required to administer various types of knowledge/skills tests for driver’s license issuance.
  • Reviews customer documentation as required to ensure that all information is complete and accurate.
  • Assists the Manager in the daily reconciliation of funds and inventory, to include conducting voids.
  • Deals with unusual or hostile situations with customers, in addition to complex driver, registration or titling issues to resolve.
  • Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver's license is required.

  • Knowledge of federal guidelines, motor vehicle law, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledge of the mission, programs, and organization of the agency
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and evaluate work activities of subordinates
  • Ability to interpret rules and regulations
  • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
  • Must possess a strong customer service focus.
  • Knowledge of computer skills is required

Qualifications

**Preference may be given to Candidates with these qualifications**

TRAINING/EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Substitution: Experience, as described below, may be substituted for the required training/education through an established formula.

EXPERIENCE

Four years (4) of full time or equivalent part time paid experience in bookkeeping, sales, cashiering or related public contact work; two years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity. No substitution.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained. Work schedules are assigned and rotated on a regular basis. Overtime hours may be required.
  • All applicants must consent to fingerprinting and a criminal background investigation. Must obtain and maintain certification to conduct various types of driver skills testing.
