MBP is looking for a Transportation Construction Manager to join our team in the Ashburn, Virginia area. This is an exciting opportunity to work on meaningful transportation projects that directly support our community. We seek candidates with extensive construction experience on transportation projects, functional leadership of project or task teams, and evidence of progressive career development.

What You'll Do:

As a Transportation Construction Manager, you will provide high-quality technical work products to the client, including on-site representation, documentation, cost control, and time management. You will manage the technical effort for the client, lead the project team, and coordinate work with various project entities to meet deadlines and budgets. You will also serve as the overall liaison between the Owner and General Contractors on specialized, multi-disciplined construction projects and contribute to business development, including leadership in short-list presentation efforts.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

• Coordinate and track multiple project activities on multiple projects concurrently and determine staffing requirements to verify adequate coverage
• Perform job site construction inspection on specialized, multi-disciplined construction projects
• Plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and manage multi-disciplinary work efforts
• Oversee validation of products and materials ordered for projects to verify their conformance to specifications
• Monitor and assess construction performance and record construction activities to verify compliance with construction documentation requirements
• Inspect work in progress to verify that methods, materials, and equipment conform to approved standards
• Maintain project documentation through review of Construction Inspectors' daily status reports; chart progress of contract schedules via regularly scheduled meetings; review and facilitate utilization of shop drawing submittals; process and facilitate incorporation of RFIs; review contractor change orders and make recommendations for changes; incorporate change orders into project record
• Facilitate regularly scheduled construction meetings
• Review the punch list submitted by others and verify that items have been completed and corrected prior to recommending substantial completion to the Owner
• Maintain a perspective overview regarding federal, state, and local laws regulating construction procedures, safety practices, and working conditions
• Work closely with the Director of Safety to facilitate the highest level of safety in and around the work site
• Investigate complaints from landowners arising out of conflicts between construction and right-of-way agreements
• Provide customer service and good etiquette to the traveling public, adjacent property owners, and other project stakeholders
• Perform various administrative duties, including daily timesheet, monthly expense report, and monthly mileage report
• Maintain certifications and recertifications
• Actively participate in company activities, including Area and company meetings

Who We Are Looking For

Experience:

• Extensive construction experience on transportation projects
• Functional leadership of project or task teams for a construction manager, contractor, owner, or designer
• Evidence of progressive career development
• Proven track record managing roadways, bridges, and/or transportation construction projects

Qualifications

Education/Knowledge:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or higher is strongly preferred
• Construction practices, principles of construction management, and project controls, with working knowledge in scheduling, cost estimating, documentation, contract administration, and construction techniques
• Personnel and project management techniques, including budgeting, leadership, training, and business development
• Highway construction methods, materials, equipment, and procedures
• Road and bridge specifications and standards
• Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
• Environmental and safety regulations
• Federal, state, and local transportation policies and regulations

Preferred Certifications:

• OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification required, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire
• Certified Construction Manager (CCM) designation required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire or promotion
• VDOT certifications preferred, such as Intermediate Work Zone Protection, Asphalt Field Level I and II, Soils and Aggregate, Pavement Marking, Nuclear Gauge Safety, Guard Rail Inspector Training, ACI Concrete, and DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management

Skills and Abilities:

• General knowledge of MBP's diverse services with demonstrated expertise in one or more service areas or market sectors
• Leadership and training capabilities for team members and project teams
• Direct client contact and client care proficiency
• Clear and professional communication with contractors, owners, and subconsultants regarding work assignments
• Stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions
• Safely navigate construction work sites with uneven terrain
• Maintain a valid driver's license with a good driving record

Guidance/Responsibility:

• Works independently and determines solutions with limited guidance
• Provides training and leadership to Construction Inspectors and other team members
• Receives overall guidance on emphasis and approach from Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, and/or Group Management

Supervisory:

• Generally performs in a supervisory role, leading project teams
• Self-performs technical tasks alongside supervisory duties
• Personnel management including performance reviews, coaching, disciplinary issues, review and approval of timesheets, requests for time off, and review and approval of mileage and expense reports
• Assists in training and provides technical expertise and guidance to Construction Inspectors

Status: Full-time

The base salary range for this position is $107,000.00 to $131,000.00. Actual compensation will be determined based on work location, qualifications, experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training.
