Examples of duties

This position leads and supports essential bridge inspection work that ensures the safety and reliability of transportation structures. The role guides technical duties and supervises staff to maintain high inspection standards. As a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Bridge Inspections: Conduct detailed inspections of bridges and structural components to assess conditions and identify concerns
  • Record Management: Maintain accurate reports, photographs, sketches, and inspection forms for all assigned structures
  • Team Supervision: Direct inspection staff, review performance, provide training, and support professional growth
  • Equipment Oversight: Manage inspection equipment, coordinate maintenance, and ensure proper tools are available
  • Safety Guidance: Promote safe work practices, address hazards, and communicate safety expectations during all tasks
  • Coordination Duties: Work with counties, railroads, and project staff to plan inspections and resolve operational issues

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,008 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position is required to meet the qualifications for a bridge inspection team leader as defined by the current National Bridge Inspection Standards.
  • This position requires possession of a valid non- commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
