Job Description

Transport Planner | 10571 | Fixed Term Contract until 7 May 2027 | 37 hours per week | £34,434 to £36,363 per annum (Scale H) | County Hall, Norwich

We are seeking a Transport Planner to join our team on a 12 month fixed term post until May 2027 to backfill for the current postholder who has taken on a secondment opportunity elsewhere in the authority.

Norfolk County Council’s Infrastructure and Development Group, within the wider Strategy, Growth and Investment Directorate, comprises a number of innovative, dynamic teams working to deliver sustainable growth across the county with a particular focus on securing the early delivery of infrastructure required for a successful county. The group has a broad and far reaching remit, with the overall goal of ensuring Norfolk remains a viable place to live, work and thrive both now and in the future.

The group has a high-profile role across many partner organisations and the development industry. It is involved in a variety of projects to help accelerate the delivery of new housing and jobs growth, including leading the county council’s work on transport investment programmes, forward planning growth of the county and working with the development industry to provide advice on transport issues.

The Strategic Transport Team is looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and proactive individual who wants to work in a vibrant and forward-thinking environment to help deliver ambitious long-term sustainable growth in Norfolk. In this post you will be involved in a range of activities including helping to deliver our Local Transport Plan. You will influence and build partnerships across local authorities and external organisations developing strong networks to help deliver multi-agency projects. This will involve representing the County Council on a range of partnerships, working with regional and national agencies on rail, and with local representative groups on developing and delivering initiatives across Norfolk.

You will support the team’s work on gathering and analysing evidence to prepare business cases for bid writing as well as helping to shape strategic transport policies and support the strategic oversight of infrastructure programmes.

Particular weight will be shown to potential candidates who have a background in transport planning. The position is both challenging and interesting: you will deal with often complex proposals; have a good attention for detail; have a sound knowledge of why transport is important; and the skills to influence the outcome of key decisions taken by others.

For an informal discussion regarding this vacancy, please contact David Cumming, Strategic Transport Team Manager, on 01603 224225, david.cumming@norfolk.gov.uk
