Permanent

Grade B - £28,598 - £34,434

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

As we deliver our ambitious Birmingham Transport Plan, we’re reshaping the city’s transport network to drive inclusive growth, tackle climate change, and create healthier, more connected communities.

About the role:

As a Transport Planner, you’ll help design and deliver innovative policies, strategies, and projects that make sustainable travel a reality.

You’ll work on a diverse mix of initiatives — from local neighbourhood improvements to major city-wide programmes — collaborating with schools, communities, and key partners to support safer, greener and more accessible journeys for all.

Sustainable travel initiatives

School travel planning programmes

Road safety and harm reduction

Air quality improvement projects

City-scale transport strategies

Who we're looking for:

We’re seeking individuals who are:

  • Passionate about sustainable transport and place-making
  • Eager to make a difference in a fast-moving, evolving city
  • Equipped with some experience (paid or voluntary) in transport planning or a related field

You might have a degree in:

  • Geography
  • Environmental Science
  • Spatial Planning
  • Civil Engineering
  • Public Health
  • Education

—or have gained relevant skills and experience through other routes.
