Job Description

Transport Manager - Cannock

The Transport Manager will manage transport operations at Cannock, working under the direction of the Business Manager and Fleet Engineer, ensuring that all activities are carried out in accordance with the requirements of the contract, Biffa Policies and Procedures, industry related legislation and health and safety rules.

Key responsibilities:

  • Liaise with the Business Manager / Fleet Engineer on all transport matters.
  • Ensure compliance with all Operator Licencing Regulations, Health and safety, ISO and company HR policy & procedures.
  • Drivers' administration including the checking of drivers’ licences and driver CPC qualifications (DQC), ensuring retention of all Driver Records in accordance with the Operator Licence Regulations.
  • Driver management ensuring compliance with all driver hours rules, both EU and Domestic, ensuring all drivers record their duty, driving time and rest breaks. Download and store digital tachograph unit data and drivers’ smart cards in line with legislation; ensuring all records are retained for drivers’ hours, Working Time Directive (WTD), and that they are available during the relevant period. Ensure all drivers are adequately trained and competent to operate relevant vehicles and equipment.
  • Review Monthly Drivers Hours Analysis Reports ensuring all driver infringement notices are reviewed with the relevant driver by the Business Manager / Supervisor, and that all infringement reports are duly signed by the driver and placed on the relevant drivers' file.
  • Vehicle administration including ensuring that vehicle maintenance records are retained for a period of 15 months
  • Vehicle management ensuring that vehicles and trailers are kept in a fit and roadworthy condition, that defects are either recorded and repaired promptly or where vehicles are not roadworthy are taken out of active service immediately and not returned to operations until adequate repairs have been carried out
  • Carry out routine checks of all vehicle maintenance records-(max every 90 days), ensuing all records are up to date and contain the required 15 months of maintenance history.
  • Review all Inspection / Service Sheets ensuring they have been completed in full and any / all Prohibition or H&S related defects have been rectified. Following completion of check, ensure all sheets are counter signed.
  • Licence administration ensuring that the traffic commissioner is made aware of any relevant matters within 28 days including convictions and prosecutions of the transport manager(s) or drivers.

Essential criteria:

  • Transport Manager CPC Qualification
  • Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPI’s
  • Experience of vehicle management – CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence), tachographs, Road Transport Directive.
  • Experience of Operating Fleets under both EU and UK Domestic rules and regulations.
  • Up to date with current industry, transport and health & safety legislation
  • Understands principles of quality standards, e.g. continuous improvement and internal audit in-line with Operator Licensing Regulations.
