In this role, you’ll set direction, build capability and create the environment your team needs to do their best work across major projects, infrastructure programmes, land development, network safety and strategic planning.

You’ll work closely with teams across Council, as well as consultants, developers and the community, to support good decisions and make sure engineering advice is clear, practical and connected to wider city outcomes.

What you'll be doing

  • leading and developing a team of transport engineering professionals
  • setting priorities, planning workloads and keeping the team focused on key priorities
  • supporting people to grow their confidence, judgement and technical capability
  • building a positive team culture with clear expectations and strong collaboration
  • helping the team work through complex issues, competing priorities and stakeholder expectations
  • building trusted relationships across Council and with external partners

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

You’ll bring:

  • a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent
  • experience leading people in a technical, infrastructure or transport environment
  • the ability to set direction, support performance and build a positive, high-trust team culture
  • sound judgement, political awareness and confidence working through ambiguity and pressure
  • a solid understanding of transport engineering, traffic engineering, transport safety or infrastructure delivery
  • strong communication skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and explain technical information clearly
  • a practical approach to balancing professional advice with community, organisational and customer outcomes.
