Annual Salary Ranges
Transportation Engineer Tech I (A16): $40,918- $61,130
Transportation Engineer Tech II (A18): $45,521- $71,055
This position is for (1) Transportation Engineer Tech I or II. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Performs intermediate design work and calculations; performs field work; uses automated systems and learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer Tech I
Performs basic design work.
Prepares field notes.
Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Transportation Engineer Tech II
In addition to the duties listed above
Performs intermediate design work.
Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience
Transportation Engineer Tech I: No Experience Required
Transportation Engineer Tech II: 2 years of experience in drafting, design, plan preparation.
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
Fingering-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication
Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
