Transportation Engineer Tech IPerforms basic drafting, calculations and field work; learns basic design procedures and techniques. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Transportation Engineer Tech IIPerforms intermediate drafting and calculations and basic design work; performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisorEssential Duties:Transportation Engineer Tech I:Performs basic design workPerforms intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex
assignments.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Engineer Tech II include all the above and:Assists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians. Performs intermediate design work.Prepares field notes.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.Works on reproduction of plans.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.Experience: Transportation Engineer Tech I: No experience required. Transportation Engineer Tech II: 3 years drafting, design, plan preparation (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum QualificationsLicenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license.
