Transport Engineer Spec IPerforms advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transport Engineer Spec IIPerforms advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques; trains and reviews the work of others. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handles at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Transport Engineer Spec I:Assists in planning and coordinating office operations.Assists in writing general notes, specifications and provisions.Performs advanced and specialized design work.Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic
presentations that include distinctive design features.Performs traffic engineering design work, analyzes traffic and accident data and recommends solutions for traffic
problems.Prepares field notes.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional duties for the Transport Engineer Spec II include:Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.May assist in planning and coordinating office operations. Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors.Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings.Trains less experienced technicians.Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.Experience: Transport Engineer Spec I: *6 years drafting, design, plan preparation. Transport Engineer Spec II: *7 years drafting, design, plan preparation. *(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum QualificationsLicenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
