Please note this posting is for the following locations:

  • Bloomington Transmission Ops Center 8111 N Lee Paul Rd Bloomington, IN 47404

  • Sullivan IN Ops Center - 1828 N Section St. Sullivan, IN 4788

Duties:

  • Under direct supervision, assist substation construction mechanics and others in substations, generating stations, and other locations in the work to be done in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead lines, bus work, structures, and equipment. Perform such duties as:

  • Waiting on construction mechanics and others, handling ropes as required, also sending material and tools up to workers.

  • Digging ditches for control cable runs and conduit installation. Crumbling dirt for back filling of static wire poles and ditches.

  • Operating air compressor and auxiliary equipment such as jack hammers for breaking our old foundations and excavating work.

  • Rigging ropes, blocks, and tackle as required.

  • Clearing and cutting brush from right of ways and substation sties by means of hand and motor equipment. Feeding chipper to load brush on truck.

  • Working with substation mechanics on installing and/or repairing substation equipment such as transformer banks, circuit breakers or switches, etc.

  • Operating ordinary machines such as threaders, hydraulic presses, grinders, and similar equipment and tools.

  • Performing the duties of a laborer or similar to less skilled worker as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must meet the company’s requirements as to General Qualifications and also the following additions:

  • Must have experience in manual work in jobs such as construction laborer or other hard-working job. Experience in electrical work is preferred, but not necessary.

  • Must demonstrate an ability to learn the operation of equipment and use of simple hand tools to assist in substation mechanic work.

  • Must have the ability to work off of ladders and elevated work platforms.

  • Must be able to obtain a commercial driver license and operate company vehicles such as line trucks, dump trucks, or any company vehicle as instructed by a supervisor.

  • Must attend sub-station construction training and pass the appropriate tests and quizzes.

Specific Requirements

  • Ability to successfully complete the Construction and Skilled Trade (CAST-R) Testing

  • Ability to obtain a valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL)

  • Due to OSHA imposed regulations, the body weight limit is imposed at 285 lbs. or less.

  • Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.
