Bayside Health is a public health service delivering high-quality care across every stage of life for close to 1.2 million people living in metropolitan Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, Koo Wee Rup, Bass Coast and Southern Gippsland. We have more than 15 main sites, including hospitals, centres and clinics that provide comprehensive care from welcoming newborns to supporting older people and a full range of services in between. More than 22,000 dedicated staff are focused on providing exceptional, equitable, and locally connected care through shared expertise, compassion, and a commitment to continuous growth. Education and training are central to staff development as we encourage all employees to strive and thrive. Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.

The Alfred Hospital Department of Intensive Care is a state of the art 68 bed unit that treats approximately 4000 patients per year. The Alfred ICU provides Victorian state services for heart and lung transplantation(including paediatric lung transplantation), short- and long-term mechanical circulatory support (MCS) including extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and Impella, burns and hyperbaric medicine. The Alfred is one of two centres providing state services for adult trauma, HIV and bone marrow transplantation. In addition, most other surgical and medical subspecialties are represented in the case-mix, keeping in line with the quaternary referral centre status of The Alfred Hospital.

This role is that of a fellow within the Intensive Care Department, located at The Alfred, starting in February 2027 for 12-month duration.

Applicants will ideally have case mix experience relevant to the Alfred ICU and must have passed the CICM fellowship examination, or have received their CICM or equivalent intensive care fellowship.

CICM trainees must have completed all training requirements prior to commencement of the role including the college project, focused cardiac ultrasound and all Workplace Competency Assessments (WCA).

Fellows will assist the intensive care unit by providing senior clinical input, supervision of junior trainees and be involved in departmental activities. Fellows will also have the opportunity to gain experience in specific clinical areas of intensive care and develop skills that will enable a smooth transition to becoming a consultant intensivist. Fellows will participate in education, quality improvement and/or research during the year. Candidates are expected to demonstrate and develop a non-clinical interest.

Shortlisted applicants will be asked to prepare a 5-minute presentation as part of their interview. The presentation should include clinical and non-clinical aspects for development and implementation relevant to the position.
