Responsible for transporting passengers in a number of transit programs including designated fixed routes, paratransit trips for persons with disabilities, senior group outings, nutrition sites, senior medical trips, senior grocery shopping. Driving of a UG vehicle in a safe manner. The proper transporting of passengers, including those requiring lift equipment or having special needs. Keeping detailed records, including number of passengers, mileage, gasoline data, and incident reports. Performing radio communications. Noting maintenance issues, fueling vehicles, vehicle inspections and cleaning vehicles.
Work includes but is not limited to:
Provides transit services along designated fixed routes connecting to other buses in a timely manner.
Provides direct transit services in a demand response program for persons with disabilities.
Provides transit for senior group outings to various locations.
Assists passengers with disabilities by using the lift equipment and properly securing wheelchairs to the vehicle apparatus (this includes all programs).
Collect the required fare (in the fare box), issue transfers when required, and provide information to passengers on schedules.
Perform various tasks including:
Writing reports
Reporting mileage
Performing radio communications
Fueling UG vehicles
Prepare daily vehicle inspection reports
Notating maintenance issues following vehicle inspections before and after shift
Driving throughout the county along a predetermined route in a timely manner.
Transport seniors to and from nutrition sites for meals.
Lift equipment is used when necessary.
Pick up clients for senior medical trips and senior grocery shopping and safely transport them to destinations throughout the county.
Assisting them in and out of the UG vehicle
Assist with the handling of grocers.
Lift equipment is used when necessary.
work different shifts and overtime, including holidays and/or weekends.
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (G.E.D.) or, any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. May either possess a valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) license or permit, with passenger endorsement and DOT Certification preferred; or the ability to obtain a Class C or higher CDL License and passenger endorsement within 6 months of hire; must be 21 years of age and good driving record for the past three (3) years. Must possess proof of current liability insurance in at least the minimum amount required by Kansas law. This position typically requires driving, sitting, bending, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion and may require long periods of sitting while driving. May require walking and standing for long periods of time. May require very heavy work, exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Ability to pass a physical agility test, motor vehicle records search, criminal background check and drug screening.
Salary Range:
$24.47/hr.
