Job Description

Management Level

Senior Associate

Job Description & Summary

At PwC, our people in project portfolio management focus on optimising project portfolios to drive strategic business outcomes. These individuals oversee project selection, prioritisation, and resource allocation to facilitate successful project delivery.

In project management at PwC, you will oversee and coordinate various projects to facilitate successful delivery within budget and timeline. You will leverage strong organisational and communication skills to effectively manage teams and stakeholders.

Focused on relationships, you are building meaningful client connections, and learning how to manage and inspire others. Navigating increasingly complex situations, you are growing your personal brand, deepening technical expertise and awareness of your strengths. You are expected to anticipate the needs of your teams and clients, and to deliver quality. Embracing increased ambiguity, you are comfortable when the path forward isn’t clear, you ask questions, and you use these moments as opportunities to grow.

Examples of the skills, knowledge, and experiences you need to lead and deliver value at this level include but are not limited to:

  • Respond effectively to the diverse perspectives, needs, and feelings of others.
  • Use a broad range of tools, methodologies and techniques to generate new ideas and solve problems.
  • Use critical thinking to break down complex concepts.
  • Understand the broader objectives of your project or role and how your work fits into the overall strategy.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the business context and how it is changing.
  • Use reflection to develop self awareness, enhance strengths and address development areas.
  • Interpret data to inform insights and recommendations.
  • Uphold and reinforce professional and technical standards (e.g. refer to specific PwC tax and audit guidance), the Firm's code of conduct, and independence requirements.

About PwC SATIC and the Role

PwC’s South Africa Technology & Innovation Centre (SATIC) is a strategic delivery hub within PwC’s global network, supporting large-scale transformation programmes through human-led, technology-enabled delivery. As part of PwC Ireland’s Transformation Pillar’s Portfolio & Programme Management (PPM) capability, you will support the successful delivery of complex business and technology-enabled transformation programmes for Irish clients.

The PPM capability provides the delivery discipline, governance, planning and control required to move complex programmes from strategy through to execution. Our teams work across Programme Management, Project Management and Project Management Office (PMO) delivery, helping clients navigate complexity, manage delivery risk and realise sustainable business value.

At Senior Associate level, you will take ownership of defined PMO and programme delivery activities, working closely with client teams and senior programme stakeholders to maintain delivery momentum, provide effective programme control and ensure that high-quality information supports decision-making.

What You Will Do

As a Senior Associate, you will:

  • Deliver and take ownership of PMO and programme management activities across complex transformation programmes.
  • Develop, maintain and actively manage integrated project plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues and actions.
  • Maintain RAID logs and other core programme controls, proactively identifying emerging delivery risks and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Coordinate programme governance and reporting cycles, ensuring that programme information is accurate, timely and decision-useful.
  • Produce high-quality status reports, governance materials, executive presentations and programme updates suitable for senior client and leadership audiences.
  • Support the development and maintenance of key programme documentation, including project initiation documentation, business cases, delivery plans and other project lifecycle artefacts.
  • Plan and facilitate project, programme and stakeholder meetings, workshops, daily stand-ups and other delivery forums, ensuring that decisions and actions are translated into programme documentation and followed through.
  • Apply Waterfall, Agile and hybrid delivery methodologies appropriately within client environments and, where required, support Agile ceremonies or operate in a Scrum Master capacity.
  • Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, client stakeholders and geographically distributed delivery teams.
  • Anticipate stakeholder needs, identify potential delivery challenges and proactively develop practical recommendations and solutions.
  • Support benefits realisation and value tracking to help ensure that transformation programmes deliver their intended outcomes.
  • Support the end-to-end project lifecycle, from mobilisation and business case development through design, implementation and post-deployment review.
  • Use technology, automation and AI-enabled tools to improve the efficiency and quality of programme and PMO delivery.

What You Will Bring

Essential Experience and Capabilities

You will have:

  • Strong practical experience in project, programme or PMO delivery, with sufficient experience to independently manage core PPM activities without requiring support on project management fundamentals.
  • Experience supporting complex, large-scale business, operational, digital or technology-enabled transformation programmes.
  • Hands-on experience in programme planning and scheduling, RAID management, dependency management, governance, reporting and programme controls.
  • Practical understanding of Waterfall, Agile and hybrid project delivery approaches and the ability to work effectively within blended delivery environments.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating client, stakeholder and programme delivery meetings and workshops.
  • Strong stakeholder-management capability, including experience working across complex organisational structures and engaging effectively with different stakeholder groups.
  • Experience producing structured, concise and high-quality executive-level reports, presentations, governance packs and programme updates.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex programme information into clear messages and actions.
  • Practical data-analysis capability, including confidence using Microsoft Excel to analyse and structure project information.
  • Strong Microsoft Office capability, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, and an ability to use modern digital and AI-enabled tools such as Microsoft Copilot to support efficient delivery.
  • A proactive and curious mindset, with the confidence to ask the right questions, challenge constructively and identify solutions rather than waiting for direction.
  • The ability to remain composed, organised and delivery-focused within complex and fast-moving programme environments.

Qualifications and Certifications

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Business, Management, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • A recognised project or programme management certification such as PRINCE2, PMP, MSP, Agile Project Management, Scrum or SAFe.
  • Lean Six Sigma or Business Analysis qualifications would be advantageous.

Advantageous Experience

The following would be beneficial but are not essential:

  • Experience working across geographically distributed, multinational, offshore/onshore or blended delivery teams.
  • Experience supporting transformation programmes within Banking, Insurance, Government, Health, Public Sector or other complex regulated environments.
  • Experience within consulting or professional services
  • Experience supporting technology implementations, system enhancements, cloud or digitally enabled transformation programmes.
  • Experience using programme and delivery tools such as Microsoft Project, JIRA, Confluence, Azure DevOps or equivalent enterprise PPM platforms.
  • Experience developing dashboards or programme reporting using Power BI or similar tools.
  • Experience working within a Scrum Master or Scrum-of-Scrums environment.
  • Exposure to portfolio management or Transformation Office environments.

What Success Looks Like

You will be successful in this role when you:

  • Consistently deliver accurate, high-quality and timely PMO and programme-management outputs.
  • Maintain strong control over plans, risks, issues, dependencies and key programme artefacts.
  • Proactively identify delivery challenges and contribute practical solutions.
  • Build credibility and trusted relationships with client and programme stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex programme information clearly and concisely.
  • Adapt quickly to different clients, sectors, methodologies and programme environments.
  • Use technology and AI-enabled ways of working to continuously improve the efficiency and quality of delivery.
  • Contribute positively to programme outcomes, benefits realisation and sustained value creation.
