Job Duties

The Training Supervisor plans, organizes, and executes School Programs team onboarding and training in alignment with the agency’s strategic goals and Interpretive Plan. This position supports Learning Facilitators in their development and growth to ensure effective and consistent delivery of high-quality student programs at Jamestown Settlement, the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, and through in-classroom outreach.

Duties include:

Develop and deliver comprehensive onboarding programs that prepare new Learning Facilitators to confidently and effectively deliver JYF educational programming.

Design and implement engaging in-person and online learning experiences aligned with JYF’s educational goals, evaluation standards, and best practices in adult learning.

Identify staff knowledge and skill gaps and create an annual training calendar that strengthens staff capacity and advances JYF educational initiatives.

Develop and facilitate mentor training and train-the-trainer programs; observe training sessions and provide feedback and coaching to strengthen instructional practice.

Develop and maintain an online learning catalog supporting content knowledge, educational methodology, and program delivery.

Provide day-to-day staff supervision, communicate performance expectations, provide constructive feedback, complete performance evaluations, and address and document performance issues.

Collaborate with Hiring Managers, HR, Education Resource Specialists, internal subject-matter experts, mentors, and School Programs leadership to align hiring, onboarding, training, and professional development efforts.

Track and analyze professional development participation and outcomes, review teacher evaluations and supervisor observations, and use findings to inform training priorities and maintain consistent standards for Learning Facilitators to be cleared to deliver programs.

Learn and deliver JYF’s catalog of student program offerings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of adult training methodology and skills in instructional design and training facilitation, with the ability to translate complex information into engaging, accessible learning experiences.
  • Project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple training initiatives, timelines, stakeholders, and competing priorities and adapt training plans.
  • Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain information clearly and collaborate with staff, leadership, subject-matter experts, and mentors.
  • Demonstrated skills in supervising and mentoring a diverse staff, including communicating expectations and monitoring staff progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to observe and evaluate performance, provide constructive feedback, and coach staff toward improved practice.
  • Ability to review evaluation information and staff observations, identify staff learning needs, and use findings to inform training priorities.

Additional Considerations

  • Knowledge of museum education techniques and resources.
  • Experience developing and maintaining online or asynchronous learning resources.
  • Experience developing and facilitating mentor training or train-the-trainer programs.
  • Experience delivering educational or interpretive programs to students in museum or classroom settings.

Virginia’s judicial system consists of the Supreme Court of Virginia and the Court of Appeals of Virginia, the Circuit Courts, and the lower General District Courts and the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts. Virginia has 13 electoral votes in presidential elections, and possesses 11 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
