Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic and flexible individual to take on a Competency Advisor role within NOV’s Rig Technologies Aftermarket Technical Workforce Development team. The position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, people-focused environment.

In this role, you will be working closely with supervisors, managers, and directors across multiple departments supporting them to ensure team members are performing their roles in line with expectations and job standards. A key responsibility is overseeing the quality assurance of the workplace assessment processes, ensuring fairness, consistency and compliance with global standards and awarding body requirements.

You will play a critical role in advising, guiding, and facilitating decision-making with stakeholders to maintain the integrity of the competency management system and organizational goals. The ability to clearly communicate expectations, challenge constructively, and explain the rationale behind standards is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and continuously improve the NOV Competency Management System (CMS).
  • Work closely with management teams to ensure clarity, visibility and accountability of competency KPIs.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting to stakeholders.
  • Review and update competency documentation in line with business needs.
  • Act as a Workplace Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer (IQA).
  • Support, guide and develop assessors and site representatives across the organization.
  • Ensure all competency processes and records comply with NOV standards and external awarding body requirements.
  • Facilitate global initiatives such as the creation or revision of Non-Product or Product units.
  • Identify gaps, risks, and opportunities, and propose practical solutions to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Support and deliver projects related to competency development and workforce capability.

Role Expectations:

  • Independently manage assigned departments or regions with minimal supervision.
  • Provide clear, accurate, and consistent guidance aligned with CMS standards.
  • Demonstrate confidence in giving guidance and feedback.
  • Always uphold the integrity and quality of assessment and IQA processes.
  • Escalate risks, non-compliance, or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Deliver assigned KPIs, reporting, and project outcomes consistently and on time.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships while balancing compliance and business needs.

Skill and Experience Required:

Core Competencies

  • Ability to quickly learn, interpret, and apply technical and competency-related standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, including under pressure.
  • Good understanding of business operations and priorities (business acumen).
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to collaborate, influence, and build strong working relationships (customer focus & peer relationships).
  • Action-oriented with a proactive approach to taking ownership and driving results.
  • Strong sense of professional ethics and commitment to continuous development.

Qualifications and Development

  • University degree with minimum 03 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Confident in presenting and facilitating discussions.
  • Assessor Qualification (D32/A1/L&D9DI/CLDLD09) – not mandatory at entry; expected to be obtained as part of role development.
  • Internal Quality Assurance Qualification (D33/V1/L&D11/CLDLD11) – not mandatory at entry; expected to be obtained as part of role development.
