Job Description

The Training Administrator provides essential operational and administrative support to the Staff Learning & Development function, ensuring seamless coordination, tracking, and delivery of training programs across the Houston Zoo. This role manages logistics, scheduling, communications, compliance tracking, and reporting, serving as the backbone of the Zoo’s learning infrastructure. By absorbing high-volume administrative and reactive tasks, the Training Administrator supports strategic learning initiatives aligned with the Zoo’s mission, vision, core values, and forthcoming strategic plan. This position plays a critical role in strengthening organizational effectiveness, consistency, and staff development outcomes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• ​​Coordinate logistics for all staff training sessions, including space reservations, room setup and reset, materials preparation, and supply​ management
• Provide reliable administrative infrastructure that enables expanded leadership development, emotional intelligence training, neurodiversity education, and staff development initiatives
• Serve as the first point of contact for training-related questions, schedule changes, and LMS troubleshooting
• Intercept and resolve daily, unplanned administrative training needs to prevent disruption to strategic L&D work
• Maintain organized records, spreadsheets, and documentation related to training compliance and reporting
• Manage training registration, sign-in, attendance tracking, and follow-up documentation within the Learning Management System (LMS)
• Maintain accurate LMS records, including training assignments, completions, and transcript updates
• Build and manage LMS features such as auto-reminders, surveys, training modules, and reporting tools
• Run monthly and quarterly compliance and completion reports (e.g., overdue training, completion lists, term/inactive user lists, etc)
• Establish reporting hierarchies and support managers in accessing and understanding LMS reports
• Administer Defensive Driving certification tracking, including expiration monitoring, staff reminders, record maintenance, etc
• Manage certification requirements, including continuous training tracking, LMS updates, and manual assignment of required courses to new hires
• Support large-scale recertification efforts and maintain year-round compliance records
• Draft and post training announcements, reminders, and updates via internal communication platforms (e.g., Watering Hole)
• Contributes to saving animals in the wild through reduction of waste, water and energy use and inspiring guests and staff to take wildlife protecting actions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
